What is the History of Kaimuki?

Kaimuki is chock-full of history, and it’s one of the oldest communities in the area. It began as the largest subdivision outside of Honolulu but originally had very little to offer residents. There were no amenities, and a trolley ride was required to get into the city. In 1898, two businessmen bought land with hopes of turning Kaimuki into a flourishing community that people want to flock to. Initially, residents were offered $50 for every baby born and to move there. Once the infrastructure was built, businesses started to move in, and the community continued to develop.

Emergency Hurricane Shelter

Mandated by the City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management, the community must have designated shelter-in-place buildings.
